Hawaii Trip (Day 6) Napali Coast Tour
The Napali Hawaii coastline tour concerned me from the moment I learned it was booked. Why:
- I tend to be motion sick, I could take something for that
- I overheard the tour was in an inflatable raft, which didn’t sound comforting.
I was relieved to find a catamaran cruise was in our future. Our day started at extra dark early, we boarded a cushy bus and watched the coastal sunrise with an elevated view-point. We arrived for check in at Captain Andy’s with enough time to look around at the local shops at Hanapepe Bay.
This is a nice sized comfortable catamaran, the staff was very helpful and nice. Our captain did a great job explaining our plan for the day, based on conditions. The first part would be a smooth sail, once we rounded the barking sands military range area, we would have a rougher ride. As predicted, our trip around the outside of the bay was rough. Bonine worked for me and wasn’t bothered by the waves; not everyone one the boat felt the same way. Ooooops sorry hun.
Our day was wonderful, the ride was fantastic, you couldn’t have asked for a better way to tour the coastline. Looking back at the island from the boat you could really get a sense for the geography. If you click on the map above you can see how the volcanic mountain drops into the ocean. Around the area of the Barking Sands Military base is a large sandy beach which is a fun diversion and must see, when on land.
We knew there would be a stop to snorkel during this trip, a coastal location in the calmer summer months; in the winter the snorkeling is done in calmer waters. The water and view are beautiful anywhere on the island. The fish were stunning here, you will see dolphins playing in the waves in front of your watercraft.
I have included a video of the first stages of our trip that I hope you enjoy, this was a full day venture.
