Daily Word Post: Riff

Music speaks to us at various times of our lives for reasons pertinent in the moment. I enjoy upbeat music that makes me feel like dancing. The least favorite are the S genres: slow, sad, or sappy; only listening when forced needed.

I have my sticking point song that I absolutely can’t listen to based on the emotion behind the lyrics. Emotions relating to parents and parenting are just to much in the Cat’s in the Cradle by Harry Chapin; it’s heart wrenching.

I’m sure you’ve heard the song, if not, grab your tissues before listening below.

Hindsight is always twenty/twenty, most parents will have regrets regarding things you failed to accomplish with your child. As I read the comments from the Youtube thread, I see I’m not alone when struggling with the song’s riff.

“And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
When you coming home, dad?
I don’t know when
But we’ll get together then
You know we’ll have a good time then”

Not only am I thinking of all the things I could have done; I feel how quickly life goes by. I’ve learned to savor every moment as time passes too quick.

Do you have a song you just can’t bear to listen to? Please share.
