The original recipe typically cooks in 4 hours, the Instant Pot significantly changes the cook time. This recipe is very adaptable; add more tomato if you like it saucier or run through a food processor if you like the meat to be in smaller particles.<\/p>\n<p> <!--WPRM Recipe 34523--><\/p>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe\">\n<h2 class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-name\">Hearty Tomato Meat Sauce adapted for Instant Pot<\/h2>\n<p>\t<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"150\" width=\"150\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-image\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bodynsoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/hearty-tomato-meat-sauce.jpg?resize=150%2C150&#038;ssl=1\"\/>\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-summary\">\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-ingredients\">\n<ul>\n<li>1 1\/2 lb Hamburg<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 lb sweet Italian sausage (removed from casing)<\/li>\n<li>3\/4 cup chopped celery<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup green pepper<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 chopped onion<\/li>\n<li>1.5 Tbsp olive oil<\/li>\n<li>4 lbs peeled chopped fresh (or 2-48oz cans chopped tomatoes)<\/li>\n<li>1 12 oz can tomato paste<\/li>\n<li>3.5 Tbsp Oregano<\/li>\n<li>1 Tbsp Basil<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbsp sugar<\/li>\n<li>dash of salt and pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-instructions\">\n<ol>\n<li>Using the saute function, cook onion, celery, and pepper until onions are translucent; remove from pan.<\/li>\n<li>Place hamburg and sausage in Instant Pot, sprinkle with salt and pepper; saute until brown.<\/li>\n<li>Place sauted vegetables, chopped tomato, sugar, and herbs to cooked meat in instant pot.<\/li>\n<li>Cook for 30 minutes using meat\/stew. Use natural release until you can open cover.<\/li>\n<li>Stir tomato paste into pot contents, cook using saute for 8-10 minutes; stir often and stop cooking if sauce becomes too thick.<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-notes\">\n<p>Chicken or pork can be substituted for the sausage; adjust calories accordingly.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--End WPRM Recipe--> <\/p>\n<p>This tomato meat sauce recipe is adaptable as we also like to use chicken or pork in place of the sausage. As children, the sauce was a favorite meal before the paste was added and eaten like a soup with toasted bread.<\/p>\n<p>If you prefer, you can chop the size of the meat down or shred before serving.
