As an Ace certified personal trainer, I get a monthly fitness journal to keep a fresh eye on what is going on in the industry. Recently, IdeaFit magazine reported on <a title=\"IdeaFit's Brazil's Innovative Approach to Dietary Guidelines\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ideafit.com\/fitness-library\/brazilrsquos-innovative-approach-to-dietary-guidelines\" target=\"_blank\">Brazil&#8217;s Innovative Approach to Dietary guidelines<\/a>, by\u00a0<span class=\"author\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ideafit.com\/fitness-expert\/sandy-todd-webster\" target=\"_blank\">Sandy Todd Webster<\/a><\/span>, which I&#8217;ve included below<\/p>\n<h3>There are 3 simple steps to use as an overview:<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 180px;\">\n<li>Make foods and freshly prepared dishes and meals the basis of your diet.<\/li>\n<li>Use oils, fats, sugar and salt in moderation in culinary preparations.<\/li>\n<li>Limit the intake of ready-to-consume products, and avoid those that are ultra-processed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The 10 Simple dietary guidelines from Brazil are:<\/h3>\n<ol style=\"padding-left: 180px;\">\n<li>Prepare meals from staple and fresh foods.<\/li>\n<li>Use oils, fats, sugar and salt in moderation.<\/li>\n<li>Limit intake of ready-to-consume food and drink products.<\/li>\n<li>Eat regular meals, paying attention, and eating in appropriate environments.<\/li>\n<li>Eat in company whenever possible.<\/li>\n<li>Buy food at places that offer varieties of fresh foods. Avoid those that mainly sell products ready for consumption.<\/li>\n<li>Develop, practice, share and enjoy your skills in food preparation and cooking.<\/li>\n<li>Plan your time to give meals and eating proper time and space.<\/li>\n<li>When you eat out, choose restaurants that serve freshly made dishes and meals. Avoid fast-food chains.<\/li>\n<li>Be critical of the commercial advertisement of food products.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I wanted to share these dietary guidelines with you as I felt they have a lot of merit. One thing I like about Brazil&#8217;s approach is that they are very mindful of eating foods prepared locally, not commercially made. Guideline number: 2, 6, and 9 touch on not eating fast foods, or foods made in a factory, these foods are filled with chemicals to make them last longer than they would in nature.
