Our captain did a great job explaining our plan for the day, based on conditions. The first part would be a smooth sail, once we rounded the barking sands military range area, we would have a rougher ride. As predicted, our trip around the outside of the bay was rough. Bonine worked for me and wasn’t bothered by the waves; not everyone one the boat felt the same way. Ooooops sorry hun.

Our day was wonderful, the ride was fantastic, you couldn’t have asked for a better way to tour the coastline. Looking back at the island from the boat you could really get a sense for the geography. If you click on the map above you can see how the volcanic mountain drops into the ocean. Around the area of the Barking Sands Military base is a large sandy beach which is a fun diversion and must see, when on land.

Snorkeling on Kauai

We knew there would be a stop to snorkel during this trip, a coastal location in the calmer summer months; in the winter the snorkeling is done in calmer waters.
