I knew wouldn’t be able to sleep unless I went up to the roof.

I first went up to the chimney to have a good look at the task at hand then went back down to get 15ft of logging chain. Dragging that chain on the second trip was no easy task due to a recent snowfall, having already made the path I assumed my second accent would be easier. With the logging chain over my shoulder, I climbed the ladder then made my way to the roof line. Neared the chimney, I had lifted my hand in an attempt to hoist myself the last bit of the way.

As soon as I lifted my hand, I started sliding, the original path had frozen over. luging downward, quickly gaining speed towards the ladder, the weight of the chain sped up the process. What it is they say about the past flashing before your eyes, it’s true. The chain was tossed aside but couldn’t slow or stop myself in time. In an attempt to kick the ladder out of my way, instead caught the ladder. Catapulting over the snow-covered flowerbed saved certain injury as the plants have wooden and metal stakes. With the wind knocked out of me I just lay for a few moments, or longer. Catching my breath took seemingly forever, my mind processing all the things which had gone wrong. Right away I would count off critical errors that I still remember to this day, I learned a lot from this experience. Thankfully a fresh 8″ snowfall cushioned the blow and saved disastrous injury.

The mark where I landed on my back,

with the ladder under my right butt cheek,

is permanently impressed upon me.

Like I would forget.

My family missed the trapeze act, I dropped right in front of the window for all to see. After lying on my back in the snow for what seemed like forever, I was not in a very good mood. Storming through the house, leaving a trail of venomous grumbles, like a pissed off bumble bee; while groaning in pain.

Now where were we? Oh the scar.
