Life Changes How Did This Happen

Early spring 2016, moments before an admission was divulged by a meek looking son, bringing life changes. I’ve seen that face before; unsure of what was coming, I braced myself for the announcement that most often left me emotionally spent.

I’m sensitive to his feeling and vicariously empathize his feelings and emotions through his experiences. As soon as the secret was out, I was relieved as it was clear he was bursting with excitement.

Life Changes grand mother parentThis news was different and very happy indeed; we would have a grand child by Christmas. I’ve waited for this for some time; a mother knows when a child starts nesting.

Herein lies the transformation, I’m learning to accept the process of aging and how quickly life changes. Oddly enough, I don’t feel old enough to be called grandmother; I’ll embrace the role however. As I mulled over moving up the generation rung; I realized that I was the age of my in-laws and parents when we were doing the same thing.

How can I be a grandmother when I still feel like the young girl with a younger on my hip. #daily #prompt Share on X

Decorating for the holidays takes on a new meaning. Will we hang stockings for everyone, adults included; or only the children? The trouble with this, I’m not sure our son is ready to let go of our little tradition: how much will his stocking hold!

Everyone wants to know what we want to be called, as we are new grandparents. I think that will evolve between Nana/Nona, Mem/Pep, Memiere/Pepere, granna/grandpa, as you see the list is endless.

It's true what they say about time moving so quickly when you least expect it. Share on X
I’m feeling like Barbara Steinwyck proclaiming how young she felt. I was young when the irony first struck me, here i am years later living this emotion.

  1. Congratulations!
When my sister’s daughter had her baby 5 years ago my sister said she wanted to be called Bubbie. Bubbie always conjures up some little old lady but my sister said she would be the youngest, hippest Bubbie of all time and she is! When the little one had a hard time saying Bubbie and only got to Bubba, my sister insisted that it is Bubbie and the kids, now there are 4 more, will learn to say her name correctly, and they have!
