Recently we’ve gone from pet dogs to having accidental ownership of a really nice cat.
As I’m writing, she’s outside with her morning gift. At this point I know that particular meow, I’m not going to the door so she can bring in her latest rodent prize.
Our beloved dog passed a little over a year ago. He was an amazing dog and is dearly missed. We didn’t rush out for another family member, I needed time to process.
We’ve always had random cats patrolling the perimeter, closer, if our dog happened to be in. We knew what would happen as soon as she popped out of the tree line that first time. Looking forward to her daily visits, we started calling her to us. For weeks she’d only come onto the patio, then lie on her back and meow for a belly rub or two, before going out on the hunt. It wasn’t until our return from vacation, when she ran to us as soon as we rounded the corner, only to follow into the house. Her brief initial visit quickly became napping on the sun porch or my grandmother’s chair.
We’re now semi converted cat owners, I overheard my husband mention he missed having a dog though. I’m still not ready for another day, as much as I missed our daily walks, I’m really enjoying the aloof independence this gorgeous cat.
It’s been approximately 4 months since we first saw our kitty in the distant perimeter of our yard. We’ve just returned from her first vet visit only to be told that the cat we thought was a female was in fact a boy. We hadn’t named this kitty and now I’m glad as this little boy would have had a girls name.
We are now experiencing all of the memes of cat ownership, including lying in and around whatever is taking my attention away from him. He’s adorable and we are so happy to have taking in this beautiful stray. My husband is glad for his new furry friend as he would have a menagerie if allowed.
