An impulse buy that has turned out to be a winner in our house: Mr Bar-B_Q Patti Press, proves that easier burgers are to be had.
The story starts a few years back, during preparations for a family barbeque routine; the all free hands on deck for laughter, catching up, and food prep scenario. Someone asked where the patti press was and was insistent on using it for the perfect burger. “Cause, you know, hand shaping burger patties is an arduous job..” 😉 Someone commented in jest, everyone laughed.. Now I really was curious.
The Tupperware unit I remember looked like this: Once I saw how the unit was set up I could see the advantage of this simple design. Basically it was a series of burger shaped containers that nested and locked into each other to make a seal for storage or travel. On the top there was a final lid, you used a press to pack the ground meat into each form. The design worked great for making burgers, but I remember how it looked trying to get them out of the form. It took some coercing, a little shaking, some tapping, and finally pushing something alongside in hopes of breaking the seal and releasing the perfectly now deformed pattie.
I had looked for the set up in various places like antique shops and online, but never did buy anything like it. What did happen was a trip to my local hardware store. I was walking past homewares and out in the aisle was their new arrivals and I saw this package for Mr. Bar-B-Q 40231X Multi Layer Burger Press I immediately knew would be the answer to what had been on my mind for some time.
Mr. Bar-B-Q 40231X Multi Layer Burger Press had improved upon the original design and made it much easier to get the burgers out of the form with a single disc separating each burger.
Each burger is perfectly formed with edges the same size as the middle, each burger is big enough to fit a bun once cooked. If you put equally portioned burger into the press, in return you get equally sized burgers. You can also size the burgers to the guests at your event as well. There is also a lid that conveniently seals the main tube for storage and travel. The only caveat I see is that the size of the tube limits the amount of burgers you can premake and store. Otherwise, this is a near perfect adaptation of the original Tupperware design.
If you can find this at your local store and it interests you the purchase shouldn’t let you down. Otherwise, you can find the item on Amazon at: Mr. Bar-B-Q 40231X Multi Layer Burger Press
The end of the package gives more information regarding the design and use of the unit.
I have to say that I’m not disappointed when members of my house are asking to use the patti press when we are gathering in the kitchen to prep for cooking… Any gadget that entices family members to help with the cooking and clean up is a winner in my book and you get the perfect patti as well.
