Hawaii Sunrise over the Makawehi Cliff
Because of the 5 hour time difference I found myself up each morning before dawn, allowed enough time to quickly freshen up, dress and run down for coffee (it’s Starbucks, but not advertised as such) before trotting out to the beach to watch the sunrise.
The roosters were announcing the start of the day as I listened to the surf wash against the shore, the skies moved from black to deepest cobalt blue, just before the spectrum of reds, oranges and yellows started to emerge. Every now and then you could hear the crush of footsteps on the sand as other early risers hiked up to the Makawehi cliff for the bigger broader view.
The colors this morning were amazing and I was so glad that I woke early for my first sunrise on Kauai.
I sat for enough time to imagine seeing a face on the cliff, a face with a large forehead, round nose and defined chin. I could almost convince myself that there was a rather tuffed head of hair on this watcher of the rising sun. The morning was so peaceful, soon the show was over as the yellow glow of the sun began to shine. I knew the best of the colors were over but still had to catch one more glimpse of my friendly beacon that shared the beauty of the day with me.
