Marge Simpson wears taller version of “grandma hair” the evidence is in the below graphic from Simpson’s Wiki (yes they have their own wiki) on Marge Simpson. Why Marge you ask? Because her hair is blue, doesn’t move and shaped precisely; plus I love this graphic. In the illustration below I wear my hair like Marge on the right, at what point does Marge start using the Updo? That is my question today, why has this age long trend continued to this day, why can’t we just all be blue haired lux locked babes?

I go to the hair salon about once a month, or so (cough), to neaten up loose ends and such.. ahem, it becomes routine. My stylist, Chelsea, decided to move to LA with new hubby, 2 besties and a menagerie of pets in tow. I had to have one last appointment with Chelsea right before she left, of course, she rocks!!

Schedule conflicts meant I went on another day, one that I shared with another of their regulars as well. The other client was having her silver hair curled and styled in a familiar way, this was a weekly visit for her, which lead to my curious thought(s):

  • At what age do you start seeing your stylist weekly for hair that will last until your next visit?
  • Do you pay by the visit, buy punch cards or can you get an annual updo membership? Are there AARP discounts perhaps? (seriously, think of how expensive this must be)

The reason this struck me is because I have recently increased my annual visits to my stylist, is this also part of the progression from youth to aged? If I am somehow following this path then as a planner, I need to know details, details are good.

Once I know the details I can keep track of the changes, much less shocking than one day looking in the mirror and seeing your grandmothers hair looking back at you. I think I want to carry my rebellious 80′s child mentality into my elder years and rock the lux locks as long as I can, no grandma hair for me.

(Myself and my hair will miss Chelsea tremendously.  Chelsea will be working at The Mint Salon on Hermosa Beach (so jealous) if you are in the area stop in and tell her bodynsoil said hello, wouldn’t that be fun, freak her out a bit too.)

(this post is not intended to poke fun at or ridicule the elderly, I will be there myself soon enough. Which is why I am starting to notice these things. Any reference to grandma hair is purely in fun as I love that style, on you, not me.. that is all)

    I’m every hair dressers night mare. I got tired of paying for hair cuts so learned how to use clippers and cut my own. Of course I like real short hair so this is doable for me. I dyed my hair recently to cover up those grandma highlights and have gotten such great compliments that I’m going to continue that on my own as well.

      I did my own hair for years Grace and only recently went in to a salon, I wish I still could do mine but it gets complicated due to all the curl. You are very luck to be able to do your own, as long as you don’t start wearing a hair helmet like Marge does.

    My hair is so thick and long that my hairdresser takes nearly two hours to just wash, style and dry. My hair is a bit like Marge’s on the right picture, not blue though, well, not any more :lol:

      Hey Karen you and I have hair that is very much the same, except mine isn’t as thick as yours I don’t believe. In my head your hair is lush and red!

  3. Hey there Janet;

    As for me I find myself getting confused over what my hair is supposed to be like! There was a time when the commercials pushed “Just For Men” to get the gray out. Now there’s a new commercial for men talking about “A Touch of Gray”! I’m so confused! Maybe I should go for the color blue. LOL!

    Great post!

      Should we go to the game tape and pull up homers hair, maybe you should go for that! What makes you feel best about yourself, that is the style and coloring you should go with.
